The Crow and the Pitcher { Free Pack }

Fables are a great way to bring life lessons into the classroom while also helping your Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade classroom or homeschool students learn valuable skills.

This FREE “The Crow and the Pitcher”fable pack asks students to identify important events, retell, use graphic organizers, focus on vocabulary, draw illustrations, focus on details, identify plot and sequence, write descriptions, analyze characters, note key details, work on basic comprehension skills, and more!
So let’s dive into more of what’s in this FREE resource! Read on!

Students can start by coloring a cover page while listening to the story being read aloud by the teacher or played through some piece of technology.
Make sure to start with the KWL chart . This way you can see which students are already familiar with the story.

These retell activities are sure to be a hit with yours students. Let them retell the story on headbands! These can be used to act out parts of the store during dramatic play or for a small class productive.

And don’t forget about the craft stick puppets! Students can retell the story after creating the characters.

These are great to take home to share what they’ve learned with their family and friends. Want something a bit easier? Then you’ll love the retell necklace!

After hearing the story, your students can focus on the important events and their basic comprehension skills. Analyzing the characters and setting will also ensure the students fully understand the story.

Also make sure your students get some writing practice in. They can start by focusing on descriptive words and adjectives. Then let your students put those words to good practice by sharing what they learned from the story. The writing fun continues when students focus on details from the story and write about them. Finally, you can have students do a “walk around the room” to see what words they recognize.

And of course we can’t forget the vocabulary! Use the vocabulary cards to practice words, do retells in small groups, to prompt writing, or anything else you can think of!

Your primary students are going to have so much fun learning about myths when you use this activity in the classroom! The fact that they’ll be learning life lessons along the way is just icing on the cake. Learning with a real-life focus is win-win!
