Pecos Bill { Free Pack }

Tall tales are a great way to keep your  2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students  engaged in learning, while still ensuring they meet the necessary standards and skills that must be covered.

Today let’s focus on Pecos Bill and how this FREE download can help you in your classroom or with your homeschoolers.

Gauge students initial knowledge by starting with a KWL chart. Once you’ve done that, you can then read through the story . That’s when the real fun begins!

Take retelling your tall tale one step further by letting your students create a headband. These are great for reader’s theater, taking home to share with family members, and more!

Have students work on their basic comprehension! They can retell the story, share what they learned about the characters by drawing and/or writing, share the most important events, let others know what they learned, work on main idea and details, focus on the setting, answer basic WH questions, and discus the characters, settings, and events that took place.

Let’s not forget about the characters! Your students will use descriptive words to recall what they know about the characters, compare and contrast characters, use descriptive words, and add details to pictures of the characters.

These older students need plenty of practice of figurative language! Let them find examples from within the story or have them write their own.

A great extension activity is to let your early or fast finishers focus on their favorite part of the story.

A fortune teller (or cootie catcher) is also included! Students love to complete these with a partner.

Your students are going to love this tall tale lesson!
