Make Thanksgiving special for your ESL students with these great ideas!

Thanksgiving is a special time of year where we give thanks for all the good in our lives. For many people, it is also a time to enjoy delicious food with family and friends. If you're an ESL teacher, you can use Thanksgiving as a chance to teach your students about this important holiday.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Have students research the history of Thanksgiving and present their findings to the class.

Teach students about the traditional Thanksgiving feast and have them help prepare a meal.

Have students create their own Thanksgiving-themed crafts or decorations.

Assign students to write essays or give speeches about what they are thankful for.

Have students make a list of things they are thankful for.

Make thanksgiving cards for family and friends

Decorate the classroom with thanksgiving themed crafts.

Have students share what they are thankful for with the class.

Assign students to research the history of Thanksgiving and present what they learn to the class.

Have students write Thanksgiving-themed stories or poems.

Act out a thanksgiving play

Have students design Thanksgiving-themed arts and crafts projects.

Set up a Thanksgiving feast in class for students to enjoy.

Have students make a thankful turkey by drawing a turkey and adding feathers with things they are thankful for.

Read a book about Thanksgiving such as "The First Thanksgiving" by Jean Craighead George.

Have a class-wide Thanksgiving feast and enjoy traditional foods together.

No matter what route you decide to take while teaching about Thanksgiving in your ESL classroom, the most important thing is to have fun with it and let your students enjoy the holiday along with you. After all, that’s what holidays are all about – coming together and celebrating.
